The LOLIPOP Hearing Study
Hearing impairment is a major health problem that currently affects more than 580 million people.
It can lead to social isolation and problems with employment. It may also be accompanied by other problems such as pain, ringing in the ears and poor balance. We are investigating the reasons why some people develop hearing problems, and are asking 40,000 people from West London to take part in our research study. The research study is funded by the national hearing charity RNID, and has been approved by a Research Ethics Committee.
Your participation
Participation in our hearing study is easy, and should take less than 15 minutes in total.
Step 1 - Hearing Questions: some questions about your hearing (about 7 mins).
Step 2 - Hearing Test: this measures your ability to hear sounds (about 7 mins). Your computer will need to have speakers (headphones would be even better). The Hearing Test will work on Apple computers running Mac OS, but not on those running IOS (e.g. an iPad).
What else do you need to know before starting?
Please take time to understand why the research is being done and what it would involve for you.
It may also help to spend a few minutes reading through the questions and thinking about your answers.
